Ji Sung Returns as Corrupt Judge in New Drama “The Judge Returns”
MBC has unveiled its first look at the highly anticipated drama “The Judge Returns,” featuring acclaimed actor Ji Sung in the role of a corrupt judge seeking redemption. The series, based on a popular web novel, stars Ji Sung as Lee Han Young, a judge who once served a powerful law firm and finds himself thrust back in time by a decade, armed with the opportunity to rectify his past misdeeds.
The storyline follows Lee Han Young as he grapples with the consequences of his former life, marked by a pursuit of power that leads to tragic outcomes. After being wrongfully labeled a criminal in the wake of his mother’s death, he meets an unjust fate. His unexpected return to his earlier days as a solo judge prompts him to confront the corrupt system he once embraced and to seek justice for those who have suffered.
The promotional stills released by MBC showcase Ji Sung’s versatility as an actor. In one image, he dons a judge’s robe, embodying the cold demeanor of Lee Han Young. In another, dressed in prison attire, he powerfully conveys his determination to prove his innocence, highlighting his dynamic acting skills. Known for his mastery of method acting, Ji Sung is expected to vividly portray the emotional journey of his character as he adjusts to his second chance at life.
Anticipation Surrounds the Series Premiere
The production team has expressed enthusiasm about Ji Sung’s return to MBC after a decade, emphasizing his commitment to the role. They stated, “We hope viewers will show a lot of interest in Ji Sung, who has fully become the character of Lee Han Young.” The series promises to explore the intense relationships Lee Han Young develops with characters played by Park Hee Soon and Won Jin Ah, navigating the fine line between ally and adversary.
Anticipation is building for “The Judge Returns,” which is set to premiere on January 2, 2026, at 21:40 KST. The production aims to capture audiences with its thrilling narrative and complex character arcs, as Lee Han Young embarks on a quest for justice against the very forces that once oppressed him.
