Last Chance to Stream These 8 Comic Book Movies on Netflix
As December draws to a close, Netflix users are facing an imminent deadline to watch a selection of popular comic book movies before they vanish from the streaming service. By the end of 2025, eight notable titles will no longer be available, prompting fans of superhero narratives to catch them while they can.
Among the films leaving the platform is Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom. Released in 2023, this Warner Bros. feature is the final installment of the previous DC cinematic universe. The film sees superhero Aquaman battling his nemesis Black Manta while attempting to preserve his underwater kingdom. Despite not achieving the same success as its predecessor, it remains an important piece in the DC film saga, paving the way for the upcoming projects under director James Gunn.
Another title set for removal is Blue Beetle, which debuted in 2023. The film follows Jaime Reyes, who accidentally acquires a powerful alien artifact known as the Scarab. While it received praise for its unique take on the superhero genre, the timing of its release, shortly before the establishment of the new DC universe, limited its audience reach. Nevertheless, it stands out as an engaging standalone film.
Shifting focus to Marvel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is also on the chopping block. This sequel features Johnny Blaze, portrayed by Nicolas Cage, as he races against time to save a young boy’s soul from the clutches of Satan. Although it did not receive critical acclaim, the film has garnered a cult following and remains an entertaining watch for fans of its genre.
Another film worth noting is R.I.P.D. Rest in Peace Department, released in 2013. Starring Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, this film follows two ghost officers as they hunt down spirits disguised as humans. Despite holding a mere 13% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, its poor reception has surprisingly contributed to its status as a comedic curiosity.
The list continues with The Mask, a classic from 1994 that showcases Jim Carrey in one of his most iconic roles. The film tells the story of Stanley Ipkiss, who discovers a mask that transforms him into a lively superhero. While it diverges from its comic book origins, it remains a beloved family favorite.
Fans of the original should not miss Kick-Ass 2, which is also leaving Netflix this month. Released in 2013, the sequel introduces new characters and continues the story of amateur superheroes. Although it faced mixed reviews compared to its predecessor, the addition of Jim Carrey adds a fresh dynamic to the film.
Another noteworthy title is Hulk, directed by Ang Lee and released in 2003. This iteration of the beloved character offers a unique blend of stylization and storytelling, appealing to a niche audience despite its polarizing reception. It differs significantly from other Hulk portrayals, providing a deeper dive into the character’s psyche.
Lastly, Cowboys & Aliens, released in 2011, presents a blend of Western and science fiction, featuring a town’s battle against alien invaders. While it has been the subject of jokes over the years, it features a star-studded cast and offers a unique viewing experience for those intrigued by its premise.
As the clock ticks down to the end of December, viewers looking to enjoy these comic adaptations have limited time to do so. Make sure to catch these films before they leave Netflix, as they represent a diverse array of storytelling within the comic book genre.
