Netflix Unveils Major Casting for Live-Action Assassin’s Creed Series
Netflix has announced the first major casting for its upcoming live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise, Assassin’s Creed. According to a report from Deadline, actor Toby Wallace, known for his roles in *Euphoria* and *Bikeriders*, has been cast as a co-lead in the series. Details regarding his character remain undisclosed, leaving fans eager for more information.
The production is set to begin in 2026, with Italy identified as a potential filming location. However, this has yet to be officially confirmed. The time period in which the series will be set is also unknown, raising speculation about whether it will feature Ezio Auditore, one of the franchise’s most beloved characters. Should the series choose to focus on Ezio’s narrative, it could attract longtime fans, but such a decision would also entail significant expectations for accuracy and storytelling.
Creative Team and Previous Attempts
The series will be helmed by showrunners Roberto Patino and David Wiener, who will serve as executive producers alongside notable figures such as Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones, and Matt O’Toole. Wallace’s past credits include roles in *Ron Howard’s Eden*, *Inside*, *Last Days*, and *Pistol*, showcasing his versatility as an actor.
This upcoming series marks yet another attempt to successfully translate the Assassin’s Creed universe to the screen, following the 2016 live-action film. Despite a budget of $125 million, that film, featuring stars such as Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, and Jeremy Irons, received poor critical reviews and did not perform well at the box office, grossing over $240 million worldwide.
Franchise Evolution and Future Prospects
While the cinematic adaptation struggled, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has thrived in the gaming industry. The latest installment, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, released in 2023, explores a narrative set in feudal Japan, featuring a Samurai and a Shinobi. This ongoing success in gaming highlights the franchise’s enduring appeal.
As anticipation builds for the live-action series, fans are left without a confirmed release date. The prospect of a fresh interpretation of the Assassin’s Creed lore continues to generate excitement and curiosity within the community. As Netflix moves forward with production, the hope is that this new venture will finally deliver the compelling storytelling and character depth that fans have long awaited.
