Gen Z Drives Fashion and Tech Trends as Holiday Preferences Emerge
As 2026 unfolds, Gen Z is shaping consumer trends with a clear affinity for specific fashion and technology items. A recent survey by Business Insider revealed what this generation cherished receiving over the holiday season, highlighting a surge in popularity for brands such as Rhode, Alo Yoga, and Apple.
Members of Gen Z, born between 1997 and 2012, are not only influencing modern style but also breathing new life into traditional brands. Their choices reflect a blend of nostalgia and contemporary flair, signaling a distinct shift in consumer preferences.
Holiday Favorites Showcase Gen Z’s Style and Choices
According to the feedback collected from 13 individuals within the generation, the items they valued most this holiday season include not just clothing and accessories, but also tech gadgets. The responses reveal a strong inclination towards celebrity skincare brands, notably Rhode, founded by Hailey Bieber. Seven respondents mentioned the brand as a top pick, with Olivia Masullo, a 21-year-old account coordinator, expressing her excitement over receiving the $72 lip-tint set and a $24 metal compact mirror. “It is so aesthetically pleasing, and I’ve been wanting it for a while,” she shared.
The popularity of Alo Yoga continues to thrive among Gen Z. Mario Renzulli, an 18-year-old student, received a $74 trucker hat and a $148 quarter zip, noting the trend of quarter zips as a staple in his wardrobe. “I’m also a big fan of Alo, so it’s something I knew I would wear in the upcoming year,” he stated. Noelle Martinez, a 22-year-old model, echoed similar sentiments regarding the brand, mentioning her wish for the $148 Suit Up trousers to enhance her on-the-go lifestyle.
Footwear and Accessories in High Demand
The resurgence of Ugg slippers is notable, with several Gen Z members expressing their enthusiasm for the shorter styles. Lindy Osborn, a 20-year-old marketing student, received the $140 micro Uggs in sand, influenced by social media trends. “I usually use TikTok to evaluate if I want to put something on my wish list,” she explained. Another member, Lyndsey Spaeth, 22, introduced a twist with her new $150 Ugg Lowmel sneakers, which she plans to wear throughout the year.
Tote bags also emerged as a sought-after accessory. Osborn highlighted her desire for a large Samo Ondoh belt bag, which she received as a gift, emphasizing its practicality for carrying school essentials. Vintage styles from Coach and the $40 L.L. Bean Boat and Tote bag are also gaining traction.
Luxury items are making their way into the hands of younger consumers. Sabrina Bazadona, a 21-year-old fashion business and marketing student, received a $2,990 Balenciaga City bag, a style that has regained popularity since its initial launch in 2001.
Sleepwear is undergoing a transformation, with brands like Victoria’s Secret and Skims capturing attention. Masullo received a set of pajamas from Victoria’s Secret, which have become increasingly popular on platforms like TikTok. Martinez, on the other hand, received a light-blue lounge set from Skims, ideal for her busy schedule.
When it comes to technology, Gen Z continues to favor Apple products. Georgia Gay, a 19-year-old public-relations student, noted a trend among her peers for the latest gadgets, particularly the $1,099 iPhone 17 Pro and the $799 iPhone 17. “I ended up being really happy with it,” she remarked about her new device. Meanwhile, Aviya Ramji, an 18-year-old marketing student, shared her excitement over receiving new AirPods, a top request during the holiday season.
The trend of self-gifting is also prevalent among Gen Z. Vince Do, a 27-year-old content creator, reflected on his decision to purchase a $7,750 Santos de Cartier watch for himself to commemorate his achievements over the past year. Osborn similarly used holiday cash to secure a $599 iPad Air 11 that she had been eyeing.
As 2026 progresses, it is clear that Gen Z will continue to redefine consumer trends, embracing a mix of established brands and new innovations while setting the stage for future preferences in fashion and technology.
