Beloved Family Man Arturo O. Valencia Remembered Fondly
Arturo O. Valencia, affectionately known as “Art,” passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. His departure leaves a profound impact on his loved ones, who remember him not only as a devoted father and grandfather but as a cherished friend. Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, Art’s life story is one of resilience, dedication, and unwavering love for his family.
Arturo was predeceased by his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, with whom he shared over 73 years of marriage. Together, they raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo. His legacy continues through his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his brother and sister, Tito and Choco, after having lost his other siblings, including his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers, Alex, Raymond, and John.
Passions and Professional Achievements
Beyond his family life, Art was passionate about various activities. He loved camping at Glen Ivy, creating lasting memories with his family. An avid bowler, he competed for over four decades at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl. Additionally, in the 1960s, he played in a men’s softball league at Torrance Park. His skills extended to pool as well, where he gained recognition as one of the best players in Torrance.
Raised in the close-knit community of La Rana, Art attended Torrance High School before embarking on a successful career. He dedicated 20 years to Soule’ Steel in Carson and later became a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His commitment to precision and excellence earned him respect and numerous accolades throughout his career.
Art was a self-made man who rose from humble beginnings to build a life marked by love and achievement. He took immense pride in restoring and maintaining his home, with each project reflecting his craftsmanship and dedication. A lifelong reader and subscriber to the Daily Breeze, he found joy in the written word, especially recalling fondly that his sons once delivered the same paper.
Final Farewell and Lasting Legacy
Though Arturo O. Valencia is no longer physically present, he will never be forgotten. His essence lives on through the stories shared by his family, the valuable lessons he imparted, and the love he enveloped them in. Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on October 27, 2025, with services scheduled for 16:00 at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934.
Art’s remarkable journey through life is a testament to the impact one person can have on their community and family. As those he loved gather to honor his memory, they will reflect on a life lived fully and a legacy that will endure for generations to come.
