Suzanne R. Rubincam, a cherished resident of Palos Verdes Estates, California, passed away on September 28, 2025, in nearby Redondo Beach. She was 84 years old. Suzanne leaves behind a legacy of love and music, having dedicated her life to nurturing the talents of children through her teaching.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Evanston, Illinois, Suzanne attended Northwestern University, where she met her future husband, Paul Pierre Rubincam, Jr.. The couple, who shared over 60 years of marriage, fell in love during a remarkable encounter at a Debutante Ball. After graduating, they moved to California, ultimately settling in the Lunada Bay neighborhood, where they lived for 55 years.
A Life Devoted to Music and Family
Known affectionately by many names—Sue, Susie, Miss Susie, Ms. Music, and Ladybug Mom—Suzanne devoted her career to teaching music at Rolling Hills Country Day School. There, she brought joy to countless children through inspiring plays and musical performances, fostering a love for the arts in her students.
In her personal life, she was a loving mother to her son, Paul Richard (Rich) Rubincam, and her daughter, Amy Rubincam Steadman. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Denise, son-in-law, Will, and three granddaughters, Chloe Rae Rubincam, Summer Elizabeth Steadman, and Mia Christine Steadman. As “Grammy,” she cherished her time with her granddaughters, creating lasting memories.
Joyful Memories and Lasting Impact
During summers, Suzanne enjoyed spending time with friends at the Portuguese Bend Club, where she would often be found enjoying the beach and creating cherished connections. On cooler days, she dedicated herself to needlepoint, crafting intricate pieces of art that she proudly gifted to loved ones. Her passion for music extended to playing the piano and tending to her beloved roses, which thrived under her care.
Family and friends remember Suzanne for her radiant smile and her incredible lemon meringue pie. Alongside her husband, Paul, she was known for lighting up any dance floor, and their inseparable bond was evident to all who knew them. It is believed that they are now dancing together once more.
