Great Bend Tennis Players Face Tough Losses at State Championship
The 5A state tennis championship in Topeka concluded with challenges for Great Bend’s players, as both Paige Stacey and MacKenzie Lindberg experienced defeats in their respective matches. Competing at the Kossover Tennis Center on March 1, 2024, Stacey, who finished fourth in singles during the season, faced strong opponents and was unable to secure a win.
Stacey, with a record of 19-16, lost her first match to Audrina Gjoza from Andover with a score of 6-2, 6-0. Following this, she played against Maura Maher from Aquinas and was defeated again, this time with a score of 8-3.
Similarly, Lindberg, who ended the season with a commendable record of 25-12, faced formidable competition. She was outmatched by Jenna Clouse from Lenexa St. James, losing 6-1, 6-0. In her subsequent match, Lindberg met Jenna Peltzer, also from St. James, and lost with a score of 8-3.
Both players showed great effort throughout the championship, representing Great Bend with determination. The experiences gained during this tournament will undoubtedly contribute to their growth as athletes in future competitions. Despite their losses, Stacey and Lindberg’s dedication to the sport remains evident as they look ahead to the next season.
