New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is currently in critical condition following a shooting incident that occurred early on November 13, 2023, in Manhattan. The NFL community was taken aback by the news, but Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has provided a hopeful update regarding Boyd’s recovery.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Glenn shared that he had spoken with Boyd and expressed optimism about his condition. “He’s going to come out of this thing really, really well,” Glenn stated, as reported by Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. He added that Boyd is in good spirits, along with his wife and child, reinforcing a sense of positivity surrounding the situation.

Kris Boyd joined the Jets on a one-year contract in March but was placed on season-ending injured reserve in August due to a shoulder injury incurred during the team’s Green and White scrimmage. The circumstances surrounding the shooting involved Boyd, along with teammates Jamien Sherwood and Irvin Charles, who were at Sei Less Asian Fusion nightclub when Boyd began to feel uneasy about the atmosphere. An altercation outside the club led to Boyd sustaining a bullet lodged in his lungs.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the shooter remains at large, raising concerns within the Jets organization. Despite the gravity of the situation, Glenn emphasized that his primary focus was on Boyd’s well-being, particularly considering that Boyd recently welcomed a child. “Once I heard about the situation, talking about Kris in general, the first thing I thought about was, he just had a kid, and I’m thinking about his wife, I’m thinking about his kid, and I want to make sure that he’s OK,” Glenn remarked.

While the Jets’ season has been challenging, currently standing at 2-8 after a 27-14 defeat to the New England Patriots, the team is prioritizing Boyd’s health over any long-term considerations regarding his future with the franchise. Glenn noted that Boyd sounded “really upbeat” during their conversation, which provided some comfort amidst the distressing news.

The Jets are scheduled to play against the Baltimore Ravens this coming Sunday, November 19, 2023. As the team prepares for the matchup, the focus remains on the recovery of their teammate and the support of his family during this difficult time.
