Beloved Ballston Spa Mayor Christine Fitzpatrick Passes Away
BREAKING NEWS: The community of Ballston Spa is mourning the loss of Christine M. Fitzpatrick, the first female mayor of the village, who passed away on Monday, November 24, 2025. Known for her commitment to public service and community advocacy, Fitzpatrick’s legacy will leave an indelible mark on the region.
Fitzpatrick, who was born on April 21, 1950, in Manhattan, New York, dedicated her life to education and public service, notably transforming Ballston Spa’s financial landscape from a staggering $300,000 deficit to a robust $4.8 million fund balance. Her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from friends, family, and community members who celebrated her dedication to improving local policies and citizen engagement.
A proud graduate of St. John’s University, Fitzpatrick’s career spanned various roles, including serving as an elementary school teacher and holding significant positions within the Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Her work with the Governor’s Office of Employee Relations showcased her commitment to advocating for New York State employees’ health benefits.
Fitzpatrick first entered local politics as a Village trustee, and her tenure as mayor was marked by collaboration with fellow leaders. She developed master plans and secured grants that fostered a vibrant and inclusive Ballston Spa. Her passion for community involvement resonated deeply with residents, making her a beloved figure.
Aside from her political achievements, Fitzpatrick was known for her warmth and adventurous spirit. Family gatherings, biking, and a love for literature enriched her life and the lives of those around her. Her ability to connect with people through heartfelt gestures, like thoughtful cards, created lasting bonds.
Christine is survived by her siblings, including John C. Fitzpatrick and Edward J. Fitzpatrick Jr., her partner Richard Dautner, and many nieces and nephews. In light of her passing, her family invites the community to honor her memory by sharing stories of her impact.
Calling hours are scheduled for Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., located at 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 167 Milton Ave., Ballston Spa.
In lieu of flowers, the Fitzpatrick family requests donations in Christine’s name to the Friends of the Ballston Spa Public Library or Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Online remembrances can be shared at www.armerfuneralhome.com.
