UPDATE: The holiday spirit is alive and well in Bethlehem as Mayor J. William Reynolds hosts the city’s annual tree decorating event today, November 21, 2025. This festive gathering is bringing together local third graders from Freemansburg and Miller Heights Elementary Schools to create lasting memories that will light up the season.

In a heartwarming display of community engagement, students are decorating the city’s Christmas tree with their handmade ornaments. The excitement is palpable as they enjoy delicious snacks, lunch, and holiday songs performed by the Liberty High School Caroling Band.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for our children to experience the joy of giving and celebrating together,” said Beverly A. Bradley, president of the Cops ‘n’ Kids Children’s Literacy Program, which is hosting the event.

The festivities kicked off earlier this morning, with dozens of excited children participating in various activities, including selecting books and decorating festive cupcakes crafted by students from the Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School. The day is not just about tree decorating; it’s about fostering a love for reading and building community connections.

As part of this event, select students are set to assist Mayor Reynolds in lighting the holiday tree next week, making this a pivotal moment in their young lives. “I can’t wait to see my ornament on the tree!” exclaimed Eric, a third grader from Freemansburg Elementary.

The significance of this event resonates beyond just the decorations. It represents a community coming together to celebrate the season, uplift spirits, and create a sense of belonging among families. The students’ joy and laughter echoed through the park, a reminder of the warmth that the holidays bring.

As the countdown to the tree lighting continues, Bethlehem’s residents are encouraged to participate in the festivities and celebrate this cherished tradition. With each ornament hung, the magic of the holiday season unfolds, uniting the community in a shared celebration of hope and goodwill.

Stay tuned for more updates as the tree lighting ceremony approaches!
