Colorado Falls to Kansas State 24-14 in Season Finale Showdown
UPDATE: The Colorado Buffaloes put up a fierce battle but ultimately fell to the Kansas State Wildcats, 24-14, in their season finale on November 25, 2023. Despite being 17.5-point underdogs, the Buffs showed resilience at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, finishing their season with a disappointing 3-9 record and a five-game losing streak.
Kansas State (6-6, 5-4) secured bowl eligibility with this victory, marking a significant turnaround for the Wildcats. The game unfolded with high tension as Colorado fought hard to stay in contention, closing the gap to 17-14 midway through the fourth quarter. However, Kansas State sealed their win with a decisive 75-yard scoring drive in the final minutes.
Key player for Kansas State, Joe Jackson, dominated the field with 142 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. His efforts included a critical 60 yards on the Wildcats’ last drive, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure. Colorado’s own Micah Welch scored two touchdowns, while wide receiver Omarion Miller made a significant impact with seven receptions for 120 yards.
The game started with Kansas State’s impressive 13-play, 74-yard drive that consumed over seven minutes, capped off by Jackson’s 4-yard touchdown run. Colorado struggled initially, with a blocked field goal attempt halting their early momentum. However, the Buffs rallied, tying the game just before halftime with Welch’s touchdown from one yard out.
In the second half, Kansas State regained control, scoring another touchdown and a field goal to take a 17-7 lead into the fourth quarter. Colorado fought back, with quarterback Kaidon Salter leading a spirited drive that culminated in Welch’s second touchdown, bringing the score to 17-14 with just over seven minutes remaining.
As the clock wound down, Kansas State responded decisively, executing a nine-play, 75-yard drive that ended with Jackson’s final touchdown, solidifying their victory at 24-14. Colorado’s inability to mount a comeback in the closing minutes leaves fans and players reflecting on a challenging season under head coach Deion Sanders.
Looking ahead, Colorado will need to regroup and address their issues during the offseason to improve their performance in the next season. The conclusion of this season marks a pivotal moment for the Buffs as they aim for a brighter future.
