Kim Kardashian Reveals Co-Parenting Struggles with Kanye West
UPDATE: In a candid interview on October 25, 2023, Kim Kardashian opened up about the challenges of co-parenting with rapper Kanye West, highlighting the emotional toll it has taken on her and their four children. Speaking on the popular podcast Call Her Daddy, Kardashian revealed that it has been “a couple of months” since the children heard from West, emphasizing the complexities of their relationship post-divorce.
Kardashian, who was married to West from 2014 to 2021, shares children North (12), Saint (9), Chicago (7), and Psalm (6) with him. During the interview with host Alex Cooper, she stated, “It’s not easy,” when asked about their co-parenting dynamic. Despite the difficulties, Kardashian expressed her desire for a healthy relationship between West and their children, saying, “I welcome a great healthy relationship with my kids and their dad.”
The former couple’s divorce settlement granted them joint custody, but Kardashian noted that the reality is far more complicated. “They live with me,” she stated, detailing how her kids see West only “whenever he’ll call for them and ask.” This situation has led to frustration for Kardashian, who refuted claims that she keeps the children away from their father, stating, “I’ve never once done that.”
Kardashian also touched on the narrative surrounding their relationship, expressing disbelief at headlines that suggest she has “kidnapped” the kids. “I wake up and there’s all these tweets about how I’ve kidnapped the kids, and I’m like, it’s not a kidnapping, it’s a divorce,” she said. Her candid remarks underscore the emotional strain and public scrutiny she faces as a high-profile figure.
Reflecting on her marriage, Kardashian revealed that there was no single breaking point but rather a persistent feeling of “not feeling safe” with West. She admitted to grappling with the temptation to publicly address West’s claims about her parenting, noting, “There has been so many times where I’ve written a draft and been like, ‘I’m gonna go,’ and then I’m just like, what’s the point?”
Despite the challenges, Kardashian remains focused on her family. She mentioned that her mother, Kris Jenner, still has a strong emotional attachment to West, which complicates matters further. “What gets her going isn’t personal insults or politics,” Kardashian said, “but what she will not take is discussion of her children.”
On a personal note, Kardashian did not rule out the possibility of a future marriage, sharing that she had a wedding dress designed by the late Thierry Mugler that remains unfinished. She quipped about her future partner preferences, steering away from rappers or athletes and instead considering “lawyers and longevity scientists.”
As Kardashian navigates the complexities of co-parenting and public life, her openness about her struggles offers a glimpse into the realities faced by many parents in similar situations. The full interview is available now on Call Her Daddy, shedding light on the intersection of celebrity life and family dynamics.
