Logan Cooley Stars as Mammoth Surge Past Wild 6-2 in St. Paul
UPDATE: The Utah Mammoth continue their winning streak, dominating the Minnesota Wild 6-2 in St. Paul, Minnesota, just hours ago. Star player Logan Cooley made headlines once again with two early goals, solidifying the Mammoth’s sixth consecutive victory.
The action kicked off swiftly as Cooley found the net just 56 seconds into the game, showcasing his remarkable skill by backhanding the puck out of midair past Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson. This electrifying start set the tone for the Mammoth, who quickly extended their lead.
Cooley struck again on the power play at the 3:29 mark, capitalizing on a slashing penalty against Minnesota’s Yakov Trenin. Just moments later, Nick Schmaltz added to the score, bringing the Mammoth to a commanding 3-0 lead less than five minutes into the first period.
The Wild’s veteran Marcus Johansson refused to let his team go down without a fight, scoring two goals to narrow the gap. His first came with just 4:21 left in the first period, a powerful one-timer from Zeev Buium. Johansson, who had only one goal this season prior to this game, netted his second on a power play late in the second period, making it 3-2 as the excitement built in the arena.
As the game progressed, JJ Peterka extended the Mammoth’s lead to 4-2 with just over six minutes remaining in the third. Schmaltz, riding high on momentum, found the net again, pushing the score to 5-2, marking his seventh goal in the last five games.
Utah’s goalie Karel Vejmelka proved crucial, making 32 saves throughout the match, ensuring the Mammoth maintained control as the clock wound down. With just 5.1 seconds left on the clock, John Marino sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, finalizing the score at 6-2.
The Mammoth are set to face the Winnipeg Jets tomorrow, aiming to extend their winning streak to seven games. With Cooley’s continued brilliance and a solid team effort, fans are eager to see what unfolds next.
This victory not only highlights the Mammoth’s rising momentum but also reinforces their place as a formidable contender in the league. Stay tuned for more updates as the season progresses!
