Los Angeles Launches “LA Is Open” Initiative to Boost Economy
URGENT UPDATE: Los Angeles has officially launched the “LA Is Open” initiative, aimed at revitalizing the local economy and inviting tourists back to the city. Announced today, this recovery campaign seeks to bolster the tourism industry and support small businesses affected by the devastating fires in January.
Mayor Karen Bass heralded the initiative during a press conference earlier today, emphasizing that Los Angeles is ready and eager to welcome visitors from around the globe. “Through this bold new campaign, we are sending a clear message that Los Angeles is open for business,” she declared. “Come visit LA and see why our city is second to none.”
The initiative serves as an umbrella campaign that integrates existing programs like Shop LA, Dine LA, and Discover LA, showcasing the resilience and vibrancy of the city. Officials, including Dee Dee Myers, a senior adviser to Gov. Gavin Newsom, and Stephen Cheung, President and CEO of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC), joined Mayor Bass to express their commitment to revitalization.
“The campaign is not just about recovery; it’s about renewal,” said Cheung. He highlighted the collective determination of public and private sectors to transform Los Angeles into a hotspot for innovation and tourism once again.
This initiative comes in the wake of a challenging year for the city, marked by economic setbacks and natural disasters. Bass and her team are keen to emphasize that the city is more than just a destination; it’s a resilient community ready to embrace visitors.
In her remarks, Mayor Bass pointed to local attractions such as Olvera Street, Grand Central Market, and Little Ethiopia, urging tourists to explore the diverse offerings that make LA unique.
With the campaign being facilitated by the LAEDC and supported by the county’s Department of Economic Opportunity and the California Community Foundation, officials aim to create a comprehensive support network for local businesses and promote tourism effectively.
The urgency of this initiative cannot be understated; it aims to mobilize resources and engage the community in a united front to recover and thrive. As the city signals its readiness, the tourism sector is poised for a significant rebound.
