North Suburban Man Charged with Arson After Thanksgiving Fire

UPDATE: A 21-year-old man from Beach Park, Illinois, has been charged with aggravated arson following a Thanksgiving night incident that left a home severely damaged by fire. Erik J. Crump allegedly ignited the blaze in his bedroom after a heated argument with family members, who informed him he could no longer reside there.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to a residence on the 40100-block of North Lone Oak Road at approximately 7:30 PM on November 23, 2023, to handle a non-violent family dispute. Following their intervention to deescalate tensions, authorities were called back to the same location just over an hour later when a fire erupted.

Emergency crews quickly responded to the scene, and witnesses reported seeing a man resembling Crump armed with a knife nearby. He was apprehended at a storage facility located on the 39400-block of North Lewis Avenue.

Sheriff John D.
