Olmsted County Drops Charges Against Woman In High-Profile Murder Case
BREAKING: Olmsted County has just announced the dismissal of charges against Margot Lewis, the Iowa woman previously found guilty of second-degree murder in a separate case. This urgent update comes from Olmsted County Attorney Michael Walters, who confirmed that the charges were dropped following Lewis’s conviction in Hennepin County for the murder of Liara Tsai, a woman from Minneapolis.
Lewis, a resident of North Liberty, Iowa, was convicted on September 22, 2025, after being found guilty of murdering Tsai, whose body was discovered in the backseat of a vehicle following a car crash. This crash occurred on June 22, 2024, at the intersection of Interstate 90 and Minnesota Highway 42, near Eyota. Court documents reveal that Tsai was brutally stabbed to death in her Minneapolis apartment prior to the incident.
Initially, Lewis faced charges of interference with a dead body in Olmsted County. However, after extensive investigations, authorities confirmed that she had transported Tsai’s body from the scene of the crime when the accident occurred.
In a statement released on November 21, 2025, Walters explained, “Because justice has been achieved in the Hennepin County case, we have determined that it is in the public interest to dismiss the additional Olmsted County charge.” He praised law enforcement and prosecutors across jurisdictions for their diligent efforts in this complex case.
This development raises significant implications for the legal proceedings involving Lewis, highlighting the interconnectedness of criminal cases across state lines. The emotional toll of such a tragic event continues to resonate within the community, particularly for Tsai’s family and friends, who are still grappling with the loss.
As the legal landscape evolves, eyes remain on the implications of this dismissal. What does this mean for Lewis’s sentence, and could there be further legal actions ahead? Authorities and legal experts will undoubtedly monitor the situation closely, and more updates are expected as this story unfolds.
Stay tuned for live updates as we continue to follow this developing story.
