Orioles Hire Craig Albernaz as New Manager Amid Turnaround Push
BREAKING: The Baltimore Orioles have officially finalized a deal to hire Craig Albernaz as their new manager, a move aimed at revitalizing the team after a disappointing 2025 season. The announcement comes just weeks after the firing of Brandon Hyde following a rough 15-28 start, leading to the promotion of Tony Mansolino as interim manager.
The Orioles, who finished last in the American League East with a record of 75-87, are looking for a fresh approach to harness their promising young talent. Albernaz, a well-respected figure in the game, has a reputation for building strong relationships with players, particularly younger ones, which is crucial for a team rich in potential.
At just 42 years old, Albernaz served as the associate manager for the Cleveland Guardians, who claimed the American League Central title this year. His coaching career includes significant experience in player development, making him a prime choice for the Orioles as they aim to capitalize on their roster’s high ceiling.
“We believe Craig’s leadership will be instrumental in guiding our talented young players,” said the Orioles’ front office in a statement.
During his time in the minor leagues and previous coaching roles, Albernaz developed a knack for connecting with players, which stood out during his stints with both the Tampa Bay Rays and San Francisco Giants. His promotional ascent is not surprising, given his successful tenure as a bench coach and bullpen coach.
The Orioles boast a roster featuring rising stars like Gunnar Henderson, Adley Rutschman, and Jordan Westburg, making the managerial position one of the most appealing in baseball this offseason. However, the team faces challenges, particularly in their pitching lineup. Key players like Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish are returning from injuries, while Grayson Rodriguez has faced setbacks with shoulder and elbow issues.
Albernaz’s first challenge will be navigating the competitive landscape of the AL East, which includes powerhouse teams like the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees. As the Orioles embark on this new chapter, fans are eager to see how Albernaz’s leadership will influence the team’s performance.
The Orioles are expected to officially introduce Albernaz at a press conference in the coming days, where he will outline his vision for the team going forward. This hiring marks a significant step for the organization as they seek to reclaim their status in the league.
