Police Identify Baby Boy Found Dead in 1981, Seek Public Help
UPDATE: San Bruno Police have made a breakthrough in a chilling cold case, identifying a newborn boy found dead at Buckeye Park more than 42 years ago. Authorities are now urgently seeking public assistance to further the investigation, announced just hours ago.
On November 11, 1981, the baby boy was discovered strangled and placed inside a garbage can at approximately 4 p.m.. Investigators determined he had been dead for only a few hours, suffering from strangulation and severe head injuries. The police report confirms he was likely placed in the trash receptacle after 11 a.m. that day.
The identification of the infant’s family has been made possible through advanced forensic genealogy techniques, a newly available investigative tool. The San Bruno Police Department collaborated with the Texas Department of Public Safety and other forensic partners to solve this decades-old mystery.
While police have not released the names of the infant’s parents, they stated, “This identification represents a major step forward in the case and has renewed efforts to bring this case to justice.” The department is now calling on the community for any information that could aid in the ongoing investigation.
In the initial investigation, the infant was identified as having Type O-positive blood. Unique evidence, including reddish-brown human hair and black dog hair found on the sock used in the strangulation, was collected, but no suspects were identified at that time.
“Despite an exhaustive investigation at the time,” authorities noted, “investigators were unable to determine the child’s identity or identify the person(s) responsible for the death.”
Anyone with information is urged to contact the San Bruno Police Department at 650-616-7100 or via email at [email protected].
This urgent appeal could bring closure to a tragic chapter in San Bruno’s history, and the police are hopeful that renewed public interest will lead to critical leads in this heartbreaking case. Check back for updates as this story develops.
