Porsche Unveils Cayenne Electric as Heaviest Model Ever
UPDATE: The Porsche Cayenne Electric has just been revealed as the heaviest production vehicle in Porsche history, weighing in at a staggering 5,831 pounds (2,645 kilograms) without a driver. This groundbreaking model not only sets a new weight record but also delivers an astonishing 1,139 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet (1,500 Newton-meters) of torque during launch control, marking it as the most powerful Porsche to date.
The Cayenne Electric Turbo surpasses the previous heavyweight champion, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe, which weighed 5,721 lbs (2,595 kg). This makes the Turbo variant a remarkable 110 lbs (50 kg) heavier than its predecessor, cementing its status in automotive history.
Equipped with a massive 113-kWh battery pack weighing roughly 1,322 lbs (600 kg), the Cayenne Electric Turbo’s battery alone is nearly as heavy as a classic car, the Porsche 356 SL, which weighed just 1,410 lbs (640 kg) and won its class at the 1951 24 Hours of Le Mans.
While the Cayenne Electric Turbo is the heaviest Porsche, it does not claim the title of the heaviest electric SUV on the market. The Mercedes G-Class weighs in at an impressive 6,801 lbs (3,084 kg), while the EQS SUV follows closely at 6,792 lbs (3,081 kg). In contrast, the American Cadillac Escalade IQ is a colossal 9,134 lbs (4,143 kg), showcasing the growing trend of heavier electric vehicles.
The unveiling of the Cayenne Electric Turbo is a pivotal moment for Porsche as it continues to evolve in the electric vehicle market. The original 2002 Cayenne was designed as a robust off-roader, weighing 5,191 lbs (2,355 kg) in Turbo S trim. Today’s models, however, reflect a significant shift towards heavier, more powerful designs.
As Porsche prepares to launch a new three-row SUV, currently anticipated to feature combustion engines at debut, the weight trend may continue to rise. The forthcoming electric version is expected to be even heavier, pushing Porsche’s weight records higher.
Porsche fans and automotive enthusiasts alike are buzzing with excitement over this latest reveal. The Cayenne Electric Turbo not only showcases the brand’s commitment to performance but also highlights the ongoing evolution of electric vehicles in the luxury market.
Stay tuned for further updates as this story develops and Porsche continues to redefine its lineup in the world of high-performance electric vehicles.
