UPDATE: The San Francisco 49ers have just voided wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk’s contract guarantees for the 2026 season, raising serious questions about his future with the team. Reports from ESPN and The Athletic confirm that Aiyuk did not meet the requirements of his contract extension, initially valued at $120 million over four years, signed in August 2024.

The decision comes as Aiyuk continues to recover from a severe knee injury sustained in October 2024, when he tore his ACL, MCL, and meniscus during a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. While the 49ers had hoped the star receiver would return midseason, the situation has deteriorated, with Aiyuk remaining sidelined as the regular season approaches its final stretch.

Aiyuk’s contract included an option bonus of $24.935 million that was set to become guaranteed on April 1, but that guarantee has now been voided. The 49ers are currently evaluating whether to pay Aiyuk his base salary of $1.215 million along with any bonuses for workouts and per-game appearances.

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed the situation during a press conference on Monday, stating, “Brandon’s just week-to-week. When he had such a big injury like that, we’re just waiting until he is fully comfortable to come up and start practicing.” With only six regular-season games remaining, time is running out for Aiyuk to make an impact this season.

This development not only affects Aiyuk’s standing with the 49ers but could also alter the team’s offensive strategy as they aim for playoff contention. Fans and analysts alike are now left wondering what the future holds for the talented receiver.

Stay tuned for more updates as this situation develops.
