South Korean Star Sung-mun Song Posts After 26-HR Season
URGENT UPDATE: South Korean infielder Sung-mun Song has officially entered Major League Baseball’s posting system, making him available for teams to sign from Saturday, December 21. This announcement comes after an impressive season where Song hit a career-high 26 home runs and 90 RBIs while playing for the Kiwoom Heroes.
The 29-year-old left-handed hitter has consistently showcased his talent, boasting a .315 batting average this past season. Over his nine-year career with Nexen and Kiwoom, he has accumulated 80 homers and 454 RBIs. As teams gear up for the upcoming MLB season, Song’s performance will undoubtedly attract significant interest from franchises looking to bolster their lineup.
The posting period for players from South Korean teams lasts 30 days, significantly shorter than the 45-day period for Japanese players. Under the current posting agreement with the KBO League, teams will need to consider a posting fee of 20% on the first $25 million of a major league contract, which includes bonuses and options. The fee decreases to 17.5% for the next $25 million and to 15% on any amount exceeding $50 million, along with a supplemental fee of 15% on earned bonuses and escalators.
This development marks a pivotal moment for Song, who has proven his worth in one of Asia’s most competitive leagues. As he transitions to MLB, fans and analysts alike will closely monitor his signing process and potential impact on the league.
Stay tuned for more updates as the posting period progresses and teams begin making moves. With Song’s impressive track record and potential, this is a story that is sure to unfold rapidly, and one that fans won’t want to miss.
