UPDATE: Texas Tech’s football team just delivered a stunning performance, crushing West Virginia 49-0 in Morgantown on November 25, 2023. Quarterback Behren Morton showcased his skills, throwing for 310 yards and three touchdowns as the Red Raiders prepared for the Big 12 championship game.

This decisive victory solidifies Texas Tech’s spot in the title game against No. 11 BYU next Saturday in Arlington, Texas. Following a crucial loss by Arizona State, Texas Tech (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) has already clinched its place in the championship, but the team needed this win to maintain momentum heading into the College Football Playoff.

From the outset, Texas Tech dominated the game, scoring on four of their first five drives. Linebacker Jacob Rodriguez made headlines again, scoring his second offensive TD in as many games, a 1-yard rush on the team’s opening series. Unlike his previous touchdown celebration, this time, Rodriguez opted for a focused approach, emphasizing the team’s drive towards success.

Morton, who played through a leg injury, demonstrated no signs of slowing down. He completed 25 of 32 passes with TD passes of 19 and 4 yards to Caleb Douglas and 4 yards to Cameron Dickey. Douglas shone with five receptions for 127 yards. Morton was replaced by Mitch Griffis early in the third quarter, ensuring his health for the upcoming championship game.

West Virginia struggled offensively, failing to gain a first down until their sixth series, ultimately totaling just 180 yards with a mere 37 yards rushing. Freshman quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. faced challenges and was substituted by Max Brown, whose first completion was immediately overshadowed by a 67-yard interception return by Texas Tech’s Amier Boyd.

“This victory is monumental for us as we head into the championship,” said Texas Tech coach. “We’ve never won a Big 12 title, and we’re ready to make history.”

As Texas Tech looks ahead, they will face BYU for the second time this season, after previously defeating them 29-7 in Lubbock on November 8. Meanwhile, West Virginia (4-8, 2-7) will not be bowl-bound this season and will open the 2026 campaign at home against Coastal Carolina.

Stay tuned for further updates as Texas Tech prepares for its historic championship showdown. This game is not just about a title; it’s about setting a new standard for the Red Raiders!
