Thunder Storm Back with 33-4 Run, Crush Jazz 144-112
UPDATE: The Oklahoma City Thunder delivered a stunning performance, overcoming an 18-point deficit to defeat the Utah Jazz 144-112 on November 10, 2023, in NBA Cup action. Highlighted by a jaw-dropping 33-4 run, the Thunder showcased their dominance, improving their record to 16-1 and extending their winning streak to eight games.
The Thunder’s comeback marks the largest victory margin in NBA history for a team that trailed by 15 or more points during the play-by-play era (since 1997-98). Oklahoma City is now the only team in the league with a 5-0 record when facing double-digit deficits, demonstrating their resilience and tenacity.
Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with 31 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. This performance came after a rocky start to the season, where he struggled with 3-point shooting. Gilgeous-Alexander’s ability to rebound from adversity is evident, now scoring over 30 points in 14 of his first 17 games—the highest since Michael Jordan in the 1986-87 season.
Despite trailing by as much as 18 points in the first half, the Thunder’s relentless defense and offensive explosion in the third quarter changed the game’s momentum. They closed the third with an incredible 43-20 scoring advantage, including a stretch of 22 unanswered points. The Jazz, who led 84-77 at one point, were left frustrated as the Thunder forced 28 turnovers, converting them into 44 points.
The Jazz struggled to maintain their early lead, with Keyonte George scoring 20 points and Lauri Markkanen adding 19. However, Utah’s overall performance fell short as they fell to 5-10 this season and remain winless at 0-3 in the NBA Cup.
As the Thunder proved their status as the league’s top third-quarter team, fans are left wondering: Can Oklahoma City maintain this momentum? The Thunder’s next challenge looms, and the basketball world will be watching closely as they seek to extend their winning streak even further.
This incredible display of talent and determination not only cements the Thunder’s position as a serious contender but also serves as a warning to other teams in the league. Stay tuned for more updates as the NBA Cup unfolds!
