Leslie Bibb Stars in Cold War Series ‘Top of the Rock’
Leslie Bibb has secured a leading role in the upcoming Cold War crime series, Top of the Rock. This marks her first project following her appearance in the critically acclaimed The White Lotus. Bibb, who portrayed vacationer Kate in season three of the HBO series, will take on the character of Captain Diane Goodman in the six-part Icelandic noir.
The series is produced by Truenorth, Iceland’s foremost production company, in collaboration with Mystery Productions and Vertu. Set in the tense atmosphere of 1983 during the Cold War, Top of the Rock focuses on two military police investigators, Captain Goodman and MP Sarah Ellis, stationed at the NATO base in Keflavik, Iceland. When an American soldier is discovered dead under suspicious circumstances near the base, the two women are compelled to work alongside the Icelandic police. Their investigation reveals a complex web of espionage and political betrayal, forcing them to navigate a precarious landscape of secrets while trying to prevent further loss of life.
Creative Team Behind the Series
The show is created by Davíð Óskar Ólafsson, known for his work on The Valhalla Murders and Trom, with Jon Atli Jonasson of Arctic Circle fame co-creating the project alongside Ragnar Jónsson, who has worked on Black Sands. Ólafsson will also direct the series, with the script penned by Jonasson and Óttar M. Norðfjörð, recognized for contributions to The Darkness and Reykjavík 112.
The production team includes Kristinn Thordarson, who serves as a producer and co-svp of film and television at Truenorth, alongside Ólafsson and Ágúst Freyr Ingason. Leifur B. Dagfinnsson, CEO and Founder of Truenorth, will act as an executive producer. Thordarson expressed confidence in the series, stating that Top of the Rock will “redefine Icelandic noirs for audiences around the globe,” promising to engage viewers with its intricate storytelling set against a stunning backdrop.
Production and Release Details
The financing and development of the series are backed by Truenorth, Mystery Productions, and Vertu, with significant partnerships from Enderby Entertainment, Baradal/Frédéric Pittoors, and Lumière. Notably, Alexa L. Fogel, an Emmy-winning casting director known for her work on True Detective and Ozark, will also serve as an executive producer.
Truenorth has established itself as a leader in Northern Europe’s film and television production landscape, having produced notable projects including True Detective season four, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, and The Northman from Iceland. Following the announcement of another project, Fury, Top of the Rock adds to Truenorth’s growing slate of ambitious productions.
Leslie Bibb, who has also starred in productions such as Palm Royale and Juror #2, is represented by UTA, LBI Entertainment, and Narrative. The series promises to deliver a gripping narrative that combines elements of crime, espionage, and historical intrigue, appealing to a wide audience.
