Hall’s on 5th, a new food hall in downtown Apopka, is quickly becoming a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Since its opening in May 2023, the venue has attracted a diverse crowd, particularly during themed events like Tuesday Trivia, which recently featured a Harry Potter theme. The lively atmosphere drew significant participation, showcasing Hall’s ability to engage the community effectively.

Ella Duke, owner and general manager, expressed enthusiasm about the restaurant’s growing popularity, especially during events like the weekly Farmers Market held every Friday from 18:00 to 21:00. “Fridays are great because we take part in hosting the city’s Farmers Market,” Duke stated, highlighting the foot traffic that benefits the establishment. She noted that the summer months, typically slow for many businesses, have shown signs of improvement as people return to enjoy the vibrant downtown area.

The food hall is housed in a historic building that has been part of Apopka since 1927, originally serving livestock feed. The exterior mural, painted in the 1960s, is recognized as the oldest in the town. Duke mentioned, “It’s one of a handful of historic buildings in Apopka,” emphasizing the venue’s connection to the community’s heritage.

Hall’s on 5th features a collection of culinary vendors, each bringing unique flavors and styles. The Butcher’s Nook, known for its prime meats, has earned a reputation for quality sandwiches, including the Italian Americano, packed with various meats and a distinctive Butcher’s dressing. The sandwich, priced at $17, delivers both flavor and value.

Another highlight is Empanada & Co., which offers a range of scratch-made empanadas. Customers can choose from options like the ropa vieja, a savory meat filling, or the sweet plantain and cheese combo, priced at $5.50 each. Both options are celebrated for their flaky dough and generous fillings.

Parlor Kitchen, led by chef Ryan Whaley, has gained significant acclaim, particularly for its corn mochi waffle, which won the Judge’s Pick for “Best Dessert in the U.S.” at the national Dessert Wars competition in 2024. The waffle, described as a delightful combination of sweetness and subtle heat, is a must-try for dessert lovers.

Soulicious Vegan Kitchen offers an enticing array of plant-based dishes, including a $30 sampler that allows guests to choose three out of six options. Standouts include jerk oyster mushroom tacos and jackfruit “brisket” sliders, both delivering bold flavors and appealing presentations.

Sweet & Salty Island Grindz, another vendor, brings Hawaiian-style plate lunches to Apopka. Their kalua pork, served with rice and mac salad, remains a favorite among patrons. The restaurant first gained attention through its popular food truck and now offers its signature dishes in a permanent location at Hall’s.

Thrive Eatery rounds out the diverse culinary offerings with a focus on Asian-inspired dishes, including bao and sushi rolls. Their shrimp tempura bao has quickly become a favorite, praised for its flavor and presentation.

The venue is also expanding its schedule to include special events such as Domino Night on Wednesdays and “Girl Dinner” on Thursdays, featuring unique shareable plates from each concept at an affordable price of $8 each. Drink specials accompany these events, further enhancing the dining experience.

As Hall’s on 5th continues to establish itself as a central gathering place in Apopka, it reflects the community’s evolving palate and the growing vibrancy of downtown. With a mix of historic charm and modern culinary offerings, it stands as a testament to the area’s potential for growth and community engagement.
