BREAKING: Joseph Angelo Legueri, beloved educator and family man, has peacefully passed away at the age of 81 on October 9, 2025. His legacy of laughter and love will resonate in the hearts of many as family and friends remember his vibrant spirit and humorous outlook on life.

Legueri, who began his teaching career at Duluth Cathedral in 1967, retired in 2001 after making a significant impact on countless students. Known for his unique catchphrase, “The heck you say,” he will be fondly remembered by those who had the privilege of being in his classroom. Joe’s love for life was evident through his favorite pastimes, particularly indulging in Vi’s Pizza and relishing a good ice cream cone.

A cherished husband, Joe married the love of his life, Shirley, after charming her while driving the after-school activity bus in 1962. Their 58-year marriage flourished as they built a home in the woods and created a lifetime of adventures with their two children, Tony and Gina Haggard. Joe’s nurturing spirit extended to his grandchildren, Thomas, Cooper, and Kelsie, instilling in them the importance of silliness and unconditional love.

As the only son of Dorothy and Angelo Legueri of Nashwauk, Joe was a beloved brother to his four sisters: Patti Williams, Jeannie Sunnarborg, Margie Legueri, and Marianne Cable. A man of many talents, he proudly built the family home and had a passion for tinkering with automobiles, particularly his treasured 1948 Studebaker. His writing skills also reflected his creative nature, leaving a treasure trove of stories behind.

In a departure from traditional memorials, Joe’s family invites friends to honor his memory in a lively celebration. They request that attendees raise a glass, share stories—true or exaggerated—and embrace the laughter that Joe brought to life. His family believes this is the best tribute to the man who lived joyfully and spread happiness wherever he went.

The family plans to gather soon for this heartfelt celebration, encouraging all who knew Joe to partake in a joyful remembrance that reflects his vibrant spirit. As they navigate this challenging time, they express gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community.

Stay tuned for details on the upcoming tribute to a remarkable man who has touched so many lives.
