JoJo Siwa was hospitalized for severe pain from a burst ovarian cyst just hours before a highly anticipated performance at the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota, on November 28, 2023. The 22-year-old entertainer shared her health scare in an emotional TikTok update, describing the intense discomfort that prompted her to seek medical attention.

Siwa explained that she had been experiencing significant stomach pain for several days, which she initially attributed to menstrual cramps. “Every time that I’ve been dancing or even just walking, my stomach would really hurt,” Siwa detailed in her video. The situation escalated when she attempted to rest before her performance, only to find that the pain intensified.

In a desperate bid to alleviate her discomfort, Siwa tried soaking in her hotel bathtub. Unfortunately, this only exacerbated her symptoms. “That set it off 100 times worse,” she remarked, recalling a moment when she felt on the verge of losing consciousness. Recognizing the severity of her condition, Siwa alerted her mother, dance instructor Jessalynn Siwa, who accompanied her to the hospital.

Emergency responders initially found no immediate cause for concern, as her vital signs appeared normal. However, further examination revealed that a cyst on one of her ovaries had burst, causing internal bleeding. “That’s what was causing the excruciating pain,” Siwa explained. “Anytime that the blood in your stomach moves, that’s the bleeding in the stomach. It’s brutal pain.”

Fortunately, the medical team was able to stabilize Siwa, and she was discharged within two hours, allowing her to perform her new festive single, “Message to the World,” at the Mall of America. “Today, we’re gonna go to work and we’re gonna dance again,” she said with determination. While she expressed concerns about how the performance might affect her, Siwa was committed to pushing through, stating, “If I vomit or if I have that excruciating pain burst again, I’ve got to go immediately back in, but we should be OK.”

Despite her challenging experience, Siwa reassured her fans that she was recovering but still not feeling “100 percent.” She also indicated that she plans to have the cyst evaluated again the following week.

This health incident comes just over a month after Siwa celebrated a significant milestone in her personal life. On October 21, 2023, she made her red carpet debut with her boyfriend, Chris Hughes, a star from Love Island U.K., at the Dancers Against Cancer Gala of the Stars held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Hughes surprised Siwa by presenting her with the Humanitarian Award for her charitable work.

“It was an easy flight to come over to see JoJo, to see the family and to see everyone here,” Hughes stated at the gala, highlighting the special significance of the evening. The couple, who began their relationship as friends while filming Celebrity Big Brother U.K., went public with their romance in June 2023. Siwa expressed her affection, saying, “It’s been a beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him.”

As Siwa navigates her health challenges, her resilience and dedication to her craft remain evident. Fans can stay updated on her recovery and upcoming performances as she continues to balance her health with her career commitments.
