Timothy McGowan, Beloved Theatre and Film Executive, Passes Away

Timothy Andrew McGowan, a respected figure in the entertainment industry and a cherished family member, passed away in early 2025 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born in 1957 in Brooklyn, NY, to Irish immigrant parents, James and Joan McGowan. He was the third of six children and grew up in a nurturing environment that emphasized the importance of family and community.

In 1966, the McGowan family relocated to Maywood, NJ, where Tim spent his formative years. He attended Our Lady Queen of Peace, laying the foundation for his strong educational background. The family eventually moved to California in 1971, first settling in the San Fernando Valley the following year. Tim graduated from Chaminade High School, a community with which he remained closely connected throughout his life.

Tim began his professional journey in the entertainment field in 1985 when he joined Columbia Pictures as a research analyst. Over the years, he advanced to the position of Vice President of Research at CBS/KCAL-9, where he made significant contributions to the industry. His career was marked by a commitment to excellence and a passion for storytelling.

His personal life was equally rich. Tim met Susan McDermott while performing at the Showboat Theatre in 1986, and they married the following year. Together, they welcomed two sons, Matthew in 1989 and Morgan in 1992. Later in life, Tim reconnected with Pamela Meyer, a high school classmate. Their partnership flourished over more than 15 years, during which they traveled extensively, sharing their love for adventure.

In 2010, after a 25-year hiatus, Tim returned to the theatre, participating in various productions in the Santa Clarita area. His dedication to the arts was evident as he embraced roles both on and off stage. During this time, Tim also achieved dual Irish citizenship and completed two associate degrees, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning.

Despite facing health challenges, including a diagnosis of duodenal cancer in 2022, Tim exhibited remarkable resilience. He triumphed over cancer but was diagnosed with leukemia in late 2024. His passing leaves a profound void for his family and friends, who remember him as a loving partner, devoted father, and supportive sibling.

Tim is survived by his life partner, Pam; his sons, Matthew and Morgan; and his siblings, Terry, Jim, Colleen, and Cathy. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Tim’s legacy in both his personal and professional life will endure, inspiring those he touched.
