Trump Mimics Modi at APEC, Criticizes Biden’s Mediation Skills
During the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in South Korea, President Donald Trump delivered an unusual impersonation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, sparking a mix of reactions. Trump mimicked an Indian accent while describing Modi, characterizing him as a “nicest looking guy” with a fierce demeanor.
In a statement on February 13, 2025, Trump remarked, “Prime Minister Modi looks like he’d like to have your father. He’s a killer. He’s tough as hell.” His comments followed discussions about the aggressive stance Modi took regarding India’s conflicts with Pakistan. Trump highlighted how both leaders seemed eager for confrontation, stating, “They said, ‘no, no, no. You should let us fight.’”
Trump further elaborated on his perception of Modi’s approach to conflict resolution, expressing surprise at Modi’s willingness to engage in serious negotiations. “I said, ‘whoa. Is this the same man that I know?’” he added, implying that he expected a different demeanor from the Indian leader.
The U.S. President then shifted focus to his predecessor, Joe Biden, criticizing him for his handling of similar international disputes. Trump claimed that Biden would not have been able to mediate effectively, stating, “You think Biden would’ve done that? I don’t think so.”
According to Trump, his administration played a pivotal role in reducing tensions between India and Pakistan, positioning himself as a key figure in promoting peace in the region. He claimed, “Most people wouldn’t have thought of it,” referring to his negotiation successes.
In his remarks, Trump also made a broader commentary about appearances, joking about “good-looking people” and their potential influence in international relations. This offhand remark added a layer of entertainment to his speech, blending political commentary with humor.
The APEC summit, which focused on economic cooperation among member nations, provided Trump a platform to express his views on international leadership and diplomacy. His comments about Modi and Biden reflect ongoing political dynamics as well as the complex relationships between major world leaders.
As the event concluded, Trump’s impersonation and remarks continued to resonate, drawing attention not just for their content but also for their delivery. The unique blend of humor and criticism served to keep the spotlight on his ongoing narrative surrounding foreign policy and leadership effectiveness.
