Five Fantasy Football Players Poised to Exceed Projections in Week 8
As fantasy football enthusiasts gear up for Week 8, several under-the-radar players are expected to shine, particularly with six NFL teams on bye. This week offers an opportunity for savvy owners to capitalize on favorable matchups and emerging talent.
Key Players to Watch
Tyrod Taylor, quarterback for the New York Jets, is anticipated to take the field as the starter against the Cincinnati Bengals. Taylor’s performance could be pivotal, given the Bengals’ defensive struggles. Currently, Cincinnati ranks 31st in the NFL, allowing an average of 30.6 points per game and 257.1 passing yards per match. In his only start this season, Taylor amassed 16.68 fantasy points, and with the Bengals’ defense struggling, he is positioned for a successful outing.
In the backfield, Tyjae Spears of the Tennessee Titans is gaining traction as a key player against the Indianapolis Colts. Over the last two weeks, Spears has seen his snap count rise, participating in 59 snaps compared to teammate Tony Pollard’s 56. With Pollard experiencing a decline in carries, Spears has been more effective with his touches. This matchup is projected to be high-scoring, making Spears a strong candidate for flex positions, especially in PPR formats.
Another noteworthy player is rookie running back Woody Marks of the Houston Texans, who has recently taken over as the starter from veteran Nick Chubb. In the previous week, Marks outsnapped Chubb 48-19 and scored 12.5 PPR points against the Seattle Seahawks. With the Texans coming off a bye week and facing the San Francisco 49ers, who have struggled against running backs in the passing game, Marks is positioned to make a significant impact.
Wide Receiver Insights
Wide receiver Tez Johnson of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is set to step up in the absence of star receiver Mike Evans, who is sidelined due to a broken clavicle. Johnson demonstrated his potential last week, logging a season-high 47 snaps and securing nine targets for 15.8 PPR points against the Detroit Lions. Facing the New Orleans Saints, who rank 27th in points allowed per game, Johnson could capitalize on this opportunity.
Lastly, tight end Mark Andrews of the Baltimore Ravens is another player to monitor. Andrews had been producing strong numbers with quarterback Lamar Jackson before Jackson’s hamstring injury sidelined him for two weeks. In the two games prior to Jackson’s injury, Andrews recorded a combined 13 catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Should Jackson return in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears, Andrews will likely be a must-start player.
Week 8 promises to be a turning point for many fantasy teams, with these players set to exceed expectations. Owners should keep a close eye on these matchups and make strategic decisions to enhance their chances of success.
