House Democratic Leader Suspends Ajay Pittman Amid Fraud Probe

UPDATE: House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson has just announced the suspension of Representative Ajay Pittman amid a damaging fraud investigation. This urgent development follows allegations from the Oklahoma Ethics Commission that Pittman may have committed serious violations, including failing to properly reimburse campaign funds.

The Ethics Commission’s lawsuit claims Pittman, a Democrat from Oklahoma City, is embroiled in financial misconduct. Just last week, the Commission filed formal charges, revealing that Pittman had previously settled a case with them in 2024, agreeing to pay $35,000 in fines for multiple campaign finance violations. However, this latest lawsuit escalates the situation significantly.

Documents indicate that Pittman allegedly issued a check for $5,000 in August 2024 and another for $2,500 in January 2025. Shockingly, the Ethics Commission found that these funds were never deposited into the designated campaign account, raising serious questions about her financial integrity.

Earlier this year, a complaint prompted the Ethics Commission to investigate Pittman’s campaign financing. Following a vote last week, the Commission has now launched a formal prosecution against her in Oklahoma County District Court.

In response to these allegations, Munson stated, “While we maintain that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, the allegations regarding Rep. Ajay Pittman are severe enough that action was warranted.” She confirmed that the House Democratic Caucus has voted to suspend Pittman from all caucus activities and recommended her suspension from all House committees as the investigation unfolds.

This suspension directly impacts Pittman’s role within the House, including her membership in the Tribal-State Committee, from which she has also been removed.

The Oklahoma House Democratic Caucus is emphasizing their commitment to accountability and transparency during this critical time. Munson noted that unless there are new developments, they will refrain from commenting further on the ongoing investigations.

As this story develops, it underscores the urgent need for accountability among elected officials in Oklahoma. The implications of this investigation could resonate beyond just Pittman, affecting public trust in the state’s political landscape.

Stay tuned for updates as more information becomes available about this significant and evolving situation.
