Kevin Durant Reacts to Rockets’ 0-2 Start After Close Loss
UPDATE: Houston Rockets star forward Kevin Durant expressed frustration yet optimism following the team’s 0-2 start to the season, culminating in a 115-111 loss to the Detroit Pistons on October 27, 2023. Durant noted that both players and coaches are “pissed off,” but he sees this early-season energy as a positive sign.
Durant, who scored an impressive 37 points on 9-of-18 shooting, emphasized the importance of this frustration. “We want a better outcome, and it’s early, too. So for us to feel that way, I like that kind of energy,” he stated. Despite his stellar performance, including 16 of 18 from the free-throw line, the Rockets fell short in their Houston home opener.
The game was marked by the presence of Rockets legends Yao Ming and Hakeem Olajuwon, but their support wasn’t enough to secure a win. The Rockets had previously suffered a 125-124 loss in double overtime against the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, further compounding their frustrations.
Guard Amen Thompson echoed Durant’s sentiments, stating, “Just feel like we haven’t played a good game yet. We want to play great games. We have championship-level expectations.” The Rockets are under pressure to perform, especially with Durant now on the roster after signing a $90 million contract extension.
As the game came down to the wire, Durant attempted to rally the team with less than 30 seconds remaining. With the Rockets trailing 113-111, he executed a pick and roll but could not find success as Alperen Şengun’s shot was blocked, sealing the defeat for Houston.
Durant admitted he’s navigating the balance between taking over games and allowing teammates to find their rhythm, especially in the fourth quarter where he scored 14 points alone. “I got aggressive and made them double me,” he explained. “I think we got some good looks.” Despite the loss, Durant’s performance shows promise as he averages 30 points per game, shooting 53% from the field and 43% from three.
With the Rockets facing mounting pressure, they must turn their frustrations into victories as they look ahead to their next match. The urgency for change is palpable, and fans are eager to see if Durant can lead the team out of this early slump.
Stay tuned for further updates on the Rockets’ season and Durant’s quest for success in Houston.
