UPDATE: Two women from Waterbury, Connecticut, have been arrested following a dramatic shoplifting incident at a Walmart on October 14, 2023. The suspects, identified as Christine Eason, 42, and Rudonna Legree, 50, are believed to be involved in multiple thefts across the region.

Officers responded to a Walmart at 910 Wolcott St. after receiving reports of shoplifting in progress. According to Sgt. Joseph Morais of the Waterbury Police Department, the women were caught on surveillance removing price tags from various items, including clothing, food, jewelry, and beauty products, and concealing them in bags.

Police learned that Legree was a suspect in a similar theft at the same store just a day earlier. As officers approached, Eason and Legree attempted to flee with stolen goods valued at $701.37.

During the confrontation, both women reportedly became “resistive and combative,” leading to a brief struggle before they were taken into custody. Both have been charged with fifth-degree larceny, second-degree breach of peace, and interfering with an officer.

Legree, a convicted felon with an extensive history of retail theft, is currently on probation and was previously released on bond for a firearms-related arrest in September.

The Waterbury Police Department is investigating further incidents of retail theft linked to Eason and Legree. Authorities urge any other police departments with similar cases involving the pair to reach out to their Detective Bureau at 203-574-6941.

“The Waterbury Police Department continues to address patterns of recidivism that the community should be aware of,” Morais stated, highlighting the department’s commitment to public safety.

As this story develops, residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Stay tuned for more updates on this ongoing investigation.
