Urgent Update: Hit-and-Run at Ohio Protest Injures Woman
UPDATE: A shocking hit-and-run incident at a No Kings protest in Jackson Township, Ohio, has left a 53-year-old woman hospitalized after being struck by a pickup truck on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Witnesses report the driver veered off the road during a demonstration against former President Donald Trump and fled the scene.
The driver, a 77-year-old man, insists he did not intentionally hit anyone. Speaking to the Canton Repository on Monday, he claimed, “I don’t even remember it happening. It wasn’t anything like on purpose.” However, witnesses paint a different picture, asserting that the incident was deliberate.
Thousands gathered near North Park as part of a nationwide protest, part of over 2,600 events across the U.S., with an estimated 7 million people participating. Following the crash, the injured woman was transported to a local hospital for what was initially reported as a minor leg injury, though concerns about her condition remain.
Witness Lorraine Wilburn, who captured a photo of the truck’s license plate as it sped away, stated, “It was definitely on purpose. He went up on the curb. She took a direct hit.” The injured woman reportedly raised her fist and proclaimed, “I’m all right,” but fears of serious injury linger.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident. The Jackson Township Police have confirmed they are consulting with the Massillon City Prosecutor’s Office regarding potential charges against the driver. Despite this, he claims police gave him a “total thumbs-up” and advised him not to worry about the incident. Police Chief Mark J. Brink contradicted this statement, affirming that no such assurance was provided.
Authorities tracked down the driver at his Jackson Township residence using evidence from witnesses. This incident raises urgent questions about the safety of protesters and the responsibility of drivers during political demonstrations.
As investigations continue, officials urge anyone with further information to come forward. The community is left grappling with the implications of such violence at peaceful protests.
The situation remains developing, and further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. Share this article to keep others informed about this pressing issue affecting public safety and civic engagement.
