Wolf Pack Stunned in Home Opener, Fall 5-2 to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

UPDATE: In a disappointing start to their season, the Hartford Wolf Pack fell to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins with a score of 5-2 in their home opener at PeoplesBank Arena on October 13, 2023. The Penguins surged ahead early, establishing a commanding 3-0 lead that the Wolf Pack could not overcome.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton made their mark quickly, with Rafael Harvey-Pinard and Atley Calvert scoring in the first period, followed by Avery Hayes adding another goal just minutes into the second. The Wolf Pack finally got on the board when Gabe Perreault netted a goal at 16:41 of the second period, assisted by Dylan Roobroeck and Blake Hillman.

The Wolf Pack showed glimmers of hope when Adam Sykora cut the deficit to one goal at 6:50 in the third period, with assists from Derrick Pouliot and Conner Mackey. However, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton quickly responded, with Calvert scoring his second goal at 11:53, further extending the lead. The game concluded with Tristan Broz sealing the victory for the Penguins with an empty-net goal at 17:53.

In goal, Sergei Murashov was instrumental for the Penguins, making 28 saves, while Dylan Garand stopped 27 shots for Hartford. The Wolf Pack, now at 0-2-0-0 for the season, are set to regroup and face off against Providence on Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
