Youth Runners Surge at Free Central Park Event Before NYC Marathon
UPDATE: Over 2,500 young runners aged 2 to 18 flooded Central Park this morning, kicking off the marathon festivities ahead of the TCS New York City Marathon scheduled for next Sunday, November 2, 2025. The free youth event, organized by the New York Road Runners, featured a variety of races, games, and family activities, drawing excitement and energy to the iconic park.
The action began at West Drive, just south of West 67th Street, close to the marathon’s finish line. Participants showcased their skills in races of varying distances, making it an unforgettable day for families and aspiring young athletes. Many of those involved are part of the Rising New York Road Runners program, which supports over 200,000 students nationwide, including 100,000 in New York City.
The event marks the official start of marathon race week, culminating next weekend when over 50,000 runners from around the globe will hit the streets of New York City. This diverse group includes runners of all experience levels, ages, genders, abilities, and backgrounds.
“Today’s event is not just about running; it’s about community and inspiring the next generation of athletes,” said a spokesperson from the New York Road Runners. “We are thrilled to see so many young participants engage in sports and healthy activities.”
The New York Road Runners hosts more than 20 free youth events each year, encouraging fitness and camaraderie among young people. This morning’s activities are just a glimpse of the excitement leading up to one of the world’s most prestigious marathons.
