Air Premia Launches New 15-Hour Route from Seoul to Washington
South Korea’s Air Premia, a hybrid airline, has announced plans to introduce a new scheduled route from Seoul Incheon to Washington Dulles, starting on April 24, 2025. This route is significant as it marks the first time two airlines will operate in this market, with Air Premia set to compete against Korean Air. The new service aims to cater to the anticipated peak summer demand for travel between South Korea and the United States.
According to Aeroroutes, Air Premia will initially operate four flights per week on the Incheon-Dulles route. Booking data indicates that this market had approximately 124,000 round-trip passengers in the year leading up to September 2025. When considering all airports in the Washington, D.C. area, the total traffic rises to around 154,000 passengers. The new flights are expected to bolster Air Premia’s position in a competitive landscape dominated by established carriers.
Flight Details and Aircraft Specifications
The inaugural flight will take off from South Korea, avoiding Russian airspace, with a return flight duration of up to 15 hours and 25 minutes. This makes the Washington route Air Premia’s longest connection to the United States. The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which have an average age of 7.4 years. These planes can accommodate between 309 and 344 passengers, depending on configuration.
As of now, the exact schedule for the Incheon-Dulles flights has not been made available for booking. However, initial reports suggest that the flights will leave Seoul at 10:05 AM and arrive in Washington Dulles at 10:50 AM the same day, covering a journey of approximately 13 hours and 45 minutes. Return flights from Dulles are expected to depart at 1:20 PM and arrive in Seoul at 5:45 PM the following day.
Expanding US Operations
Air Premia began its U.S. operations in 2022 with flights to Los Angeles, later adding Newark and San Francisco in 2023. A route to Honolulu is also anticipated for 2025, with plans for a Seattle service discussed but not yet officially announced. The rapid expansion comes as competition in the market intensifies, especially with the entry of Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines on routes connecting Seattle to Seoul.
As of December 1, 2025, Air Premia aims to operate a total of 31 weekly flights to the United States. This includes 11 flights per week to Los Angeles, daily service to Newark, five times per week to San Francisco, and four flights each week to both Honolulu and Washington Dulles. Overall, the U.S. market is expected to see 242 weekly departures from Seoul, with Air Premia capturing about 13% of that market share.
In the broader context, the combined passenger traffic from the Washington D.C. area airports—Dulles, Reagan National, and Baltimore—has seen significant growth, with around 1.5 million passengers traveling to and from Asia in the last year. The most popular route remains to Tokyo, followed closely by Seoul.
Air Premia’s entry into the Washington Dulles market, alongside its ongoing expansion in the United States, reflects a strategic effort to tap into the growing demand for air travel between South Korea and North America. As the airline prepares for its new operations, it will be crucial to monitor how it navigates the competitive landscape and establishes its presence in the transpacific market.
