Community Mourns the Loss of Rosalie Silverglate Anderson

Rosalie Silverglate Anderson, a cherished member of the Riverside community in California, passed away on November 23, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on April 9, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York, she made a significant impact throughout her life through her dedication to family, community, and social responsibility.

A Life Rooted in Community and Service

Rosalie was the daughter of Lou and Cecile Katz and relocated to Riverside at the age of eight. The transition to Southern California, particularly during the winter months, fostered a lifelong appreciation for the area’s warmth and beauty. The Katz family played a foundational role in establishing Riverside’s Temple Beth El, where Rosalie remained actively engaged in Jewish life and community initiatives.

Her commitment to Tikkun Olam, the Jewish principle of repairing the world, was a guiding force in her life. This ethos of social responsibility was evident in her professional journey. After completing her education at Longfellow Elementary School, Riverside Community College, and UCLA, Rosalie earned a bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies and a master’s in Public Administration from UC Riverside. She later served as the Assistant Director of Community and Housing Development for the City of Riverside, where she championed the belief that strong neighborhoods enhance the quality of life for their residents.

Family Legacy and Cherished Memories

Rosalie met her first husband, Leonard Silverglate, while studying at UCLA. Their marriage was marked by love and companionship until Leonard’s passing in 1993. In 1996, she found love again with James (Jim) Anderson, with whom she shared many joyous years filled with family gatherings and travel adventures.

Her legacy extends through her children: David Silverglate (Suzanne), Sharon Silverglate, and Janet Silverglate (Micha), as well as her grandchildren, Nathan, Lee, and Steven Silverglate, Max Kauert (Danielle), and Lena Kauert. She also leaves behind step-grandchildren, Jackie Brennan (Brandon) and Aaron Anderson, and great-grandchildren, Noa and Jack Kauert, along with step-great-grandchildren, Shilo and Tilia Brennan. Her brother, Ken Katz (Ann), and Jim’s children, Jim Anderson (Mary) and Linda Namminga (Sam), also survive her.

Rosalie’s life was characterized by her joyful spirit, creativity, and passion for activities such as tennis, reading, gardening, and flower arranging. Friends and family remember her for her kindness, curiosity, and ability to bring people together. She left a lasting impression on all who knew her, as her gift for creating beauty and fostering relationships enriched the lives of those around her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lou and Cecile Katz; her brothers, Aaron and Gerald Katz; and her first husband, Leonard Silverglate. Rosalie’s life was a blessing to many, and her absence will be deeply felt in the community.
