Grand Forks Masons Celebrate New Temple Dedication with Grand Ball
On December 12, 1890, the Masonic Fraternity of Grand Forks celebrated a significant milestone with the dedication of their new temple located on the fourth floor of the Herald Block. This lavish hall, which boasts dimensions of 35 by 60 feet, marks a new chapter in the history of local Masonry, according to the Grand Forks Herald.
The dedication ceremony was a splendid affair, described in the newspaper as a “MASONIC BLOWOUT.” Guests were welcomed into a space adorned with exquisite decorations, including frescoes and Masonic emblems that create an inviting atmosphere. The hall’s plush furniture and velvet carpeting were designed to embody comfort, enhancing the overall experience for the attendees.
The evening’s festivities commenced with a musical performance by Hall’s orchestra, setting a jubilant tone as the guests gathered. Shortly after 21:00, Worshipful Master Topning formally opened the proceedings, calling the assembly to order. Chaplain W. T. Traub delivered a dedicatory speech, highlighting the significance of the new hall for the community.
Following the ceremony, a grand ball and banquet were hosted by Major Coleman of the Dacotah. The menu was described as “truly incomparable,” further elevating the celebratory atmosphere. Attendees enjoyed an evening filled with camaraderie and joy, marking what many considered the dawn of a new era for Masonry in Grand Forks.
The successful event drew praise from attendees, who remarked on the hall’s impressive design and functionality. The Masons of Grand Forks not only dedicated a new space but also reinforced their commitment to community and fellowship. The gathering showcased the unity and strength of the Masonic Fraternity, with guests from various locations, including Angora, Thibet, and the Swiss Alps, expressing their admiration for the new lodge.
