Ja Morant Expands Business Horizons with Investment in EuroStep Ventures
Ja Morant, the star guard for the Memphis Grizzlies, has made headlines not just for his performance on the court but also for his latest business venture. The two-time NBA All-Star has invested in EuroStep Ventures (ESV), the parent company of the Levallois Metropolitans, the team formerly associated with emerging basketball sensation Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama gained international recognition while playing for the Metropolitans in France before entering the NBA. During his tenure, he significantly elevated the team’s profile, including competing against the NBA G-League’s Ignite team. His presence not only brought attention to the Metropolitans but also highlighted the potential of European basketball on the global stage.
Morant’s investment marks a strategic move into the European basketball market. Although he has not invested directly in the Metropolitans, his media company, Catch 12, is now a stakeholder in ESV. This aligns him with other NBA luminaries such as Kevin Durant and Tony Parker, who have previously invested in European teams, reflecting the NBA’s broader ambition to expand its influence overseas.
Catch 12 and Future Aspirations
Catch 12, a family-run business led by Morant’s father, Tee Morant, and managed by his uncle, Phil Morant, aims to create a meaningful impact through this investment. Phil Morant expressed the company’s vision, stating, “This is not just an investment in a basketball club; it is an investment in people, culture, and possibility.” He further emphasized that their success will be measured by the legacy they leave behind, asserting that their partnership with EuroStep is more than a financial decision; it’s about shaping the future of basketball and the communities it touches.
The Levallois Metropolitans are currently working towards re-establishing themselves in the professional basketball ranks. The team has engaged in discussions with the NBA regarding potential European expansion, positioning itself as a key player in the continent’s basketball landscape.
Given these developments, Morant’s investment could prove to be a forward-thinking decision. By aligning with a growing European basketball entity, he may be positioning himself and Catch 12 for significant returns in the coming years. As European basketball continues to gain traction, Morant’s proactive approach could lead to one of his most impactful business ventures to date.
With this strategic investment, Morant not only enhances his business portfolio but also contributes to the growth and development of basketball culture beyond the United States. As the sport evolves globally, his involvement is a testament to the increasing importance of international markets in professional sports.
