Matt and Cameron Kuchar achieved a remarkable milestone at the PNC Championship by shooting a tournament-record score of 54 during the final day of competition on December 17, 2023. Their impressive performance in the father-son event, held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, secured their first title in this prestigious tournament.

The Kuchar duo excelled in a scramble format, recording an astonishing 14 birdies and two eagles, along with just two pars, culminating in an 18-under-par round. They finished the tournament at a total of 33-under 111, resulting in a commanding seven-stroke victory over their nearest competitors.

Matt Kuchar played a pivotal role in the team’s success, setting up both of their eagles. At the par-5 third hole, he executed a draw shot that positioned Cameron perfectly for an easy putt. Later, at the par-5 18th, Matt delivered a shot that landed within three feet of the hole. Overcome with emotion, Matt, who is 47 years old, reflected on the poignant significance of the moment, especially following the recent passing of his father, Peter Kuchar.

“I don’t know if you believe in karma, if you believe in fate, whatever you believe in, there’s something magical that does exist,” Matt Kuchar stated. “For me to hit it to a foot makes me think there’s something more out there. I just miss Pops.”

Cameron Kuchar shared his excitement about winning alongside his father, noting the fun they had throughout the tournament. “That was amazing,” he remarked. “I probably made five or six solo birdies. It was just fun going back-and-forth like that.”

The PNC Championship featured strong performances from other teams as well. Team Love, consisting of Davis Love III and his son Dru Love, shot a 58, finishing the tournament at 26 under par, which tied them for second place with Team Daly, featuring John Daly and John Daly II, who carded a 59. Both Team Korda, with Nelly Korda and Petr Korda, and Team Stricker, including Steve Stricker and Izzi Stricker, concluded the tournament at 25 under par, each shooting a final round of 59.

The Kuchar family’s victory at the PNC Championship not only highlights their golfing prowess but also showcases the deep emotional connection that can be fostered through the game, particularly in the context of family. This event serves as a reminder of the joy and legacy that sports can bring, especially during challenging times.
