Local nonprofit organization PLIGHT, Inc. is set to host its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast on the morning of the holiday, January 19, 2026, in Tifton, Georgia. The event aims to honor the legacy of the civil rights leader while fostering community unity and reflection on his enduring messages.

Residents of Tifton are invited to join the celebration, which will take place at the Tift County Recreation Department. The breakfast promises to be a morning filled with good food, live entertainment from Music Solution, and an inspiring address by guest speaker Rev. Tracy Charletta McGeathey.

Rev. McGeathey, the pastor of Allen Temple AME Church in Jacksonville, Florida, brings a wealth of experience to the event. She has previously led several congregations, including the Mt. Zion AME Church and Lawtey AME Church. In addition to her pastoral duties, she has served as the executive council assistant to Sam Newby, the president of the Jacksonville City Council. Her focus on mental health advocacy will be a key highlight of her address, emphasizing the importance of health and wellness at every stage of life.

During the breakfast, PLIGHT will also present the Spirit of Service Award to a dedicated member who has exemplified exceptional service to the local community. This recognition underscores the organization’s commitment to honoring those who contribute positively to society.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast is scheduled to begin at 8:30 AM. Tickets are priced at $15 and must be purchased in advance. Interested individuals can obtain more information or purchase tickets by contacting PLIGHT at (229) 386-4360 or reaching out to Melissa Hughes, a member of the Tift County Board of Commissioners, at (229) 326-0241.
