Pennsylvania Farm Show Launches Yearlong Celebration of America250
HARRISBURG, PA — The 2026 Pennsylvania Farm Show officially opened its doors on January 7, marking not only the commencement of an eight-day agricultural exposition but also the start of a yearlong celebration of America’s 250th anniversary. Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, alongside U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson and America250PA Executive Director Cassandra Coleman, inaugurated the event at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex, which is recognized as the largest indoor agricultural exhibition in the United States.
During the opening ceremony, Redding emphasized the significance of agriculture in the nation’s history. “Today, we celebrate an enduring symbol,” he stated, highlighting the contributions of farmers and food producers to the development of the United States. The theme for this year’s show, “Growing a Nation,” connects Pennsylvania’s agricultural legacy with the country’s founding and ongoing economic vitality.
Festivities Unite History and Modernity
The opening festivities blended historical elements with contemporary flair. Deputy Agriculture Secretary Lisa Graybeal served as emcee, while mounted Pennsylvania State Police and the Revolutionary New Philly Fife and Drum Company added a historical touch. The ceremony featured a performance of the National Anthem by Carly Green, a 14-year-old winner from Schuylkill County.
A notable highlight was the unveiling of the America250PA Semiquincentennial Bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell adorned with a quilt-inspired design by Pittsburgh artist Cody Sabol. This bell is set to travel throughout the Farm Show Complex, while a second bell at the America250PA exhibit invites visitors to leave their signatures, commemorating the anniversary.
A Showcase of Agriculture and Community
The 2026 Farm Show will run until January 17, featuring nearly 5,000 animals and over 12,000 competitive entries from more than 4,600 participants. With more than 250 commercial exhibits sprawled across over one million square feet, the event showcases the diversity and innovation of the agricultural sector in Pennsylvania.
Admission to the Farm Show is free, with a parking fee of $15 per vehicle. Traditional attractions are back, including the renowned 1,000-pound butter sculpture, the Farm Show Food Court, and various competitions such as sheep-to-shawl and cow milking. These activities not only entertain but also educate visitors about the agricultural industry that supports approximately 593,000 jobs and contributes $132.5 billion annually to the state’s economy.
For those interested in attending, detailed information on hours, schedules, maps, and events can be found at farmshow.pa.gov under the 2026 Farm Show section. The Pennsylvania Farm Show is poised to be a significant event, celebrating the past while looking forward to the future of agriculture in the United States.
