Community Mourns Passing of Entrepreneur Rachel Hagedorn at 93

Rachel Anne Hagedorn, a prominent entrepreneur and cherished family matriarch, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 93. Her death marks the loss of a beloved member of the Morgantown community, where she and her late husband, Bill Hagedorn, established Hagedorn’s LP Gas Service, a key business in the region since the 1960s.

Born on December 18, 1932, in Paden City, Rachel was the daughter of the late Dougall and Edith Sims Martin. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a passion for entrepreneurship and a deep commitment to her family. Under her guidance, Hagedorn’s LP Gas Service grew into a reputable business known for its quality service and community involvement.

A Life of Joy and Family Connections

Beyond her professional achievements, Rachel was recognized for her love of baking and her extensive collection of cookbooks. These hobbies reflected her enthusiasm for the culinary arts and her desire to share joy through food. Rachel also enjoyed shopping, often seeking the perfect gifts to delight her family and friends.

Family was at the heart of Rachel’s life. She is survived by her son Randy Hagedorn and his wife Becky, along with their children Kris, Matthew, and Holly; her son Tim Hagedorn and his wife Pam, and their children Tim, Jr., Luke Hagedorn, and Adrian Simms; and her daughter Cathy Sue Hagedorn, who brought forth children Robbie, Emily, Tyler, Jonathan, Christopher, and Michael Lazzell. She also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren who will carry on her legacy.

Legacy and Memorial Arrangements

Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Roy “Bill” Hagedorn, and her siblings Lee Martin, Betty Castle, Keith Martin, Norma Jean Brass, and Dougall C. Martin, Jr.. Her family has chosen to honor her wishes with a private service, details of which will be shared later.
