Bo Nix Breaks Ankle in Broncos’ Win; Surgery Scheduled Tuesday
UPDATE: Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix suffered a broken right ankle late in overtime during the Broncos’ thrilling 33-30 playoff victory over the Buffalo Bills on Saturday. The injury, which occurred just before the end of the game, will require surgery and sidelines Nix for the remainder of the playoffs, according to Coach Sean Payton.
This shocking development comes as the Broncos celebrate their biggest win in a decade, securing their spot in the upcoming AFC Championship Game. Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham will take over as starter next week. “Stiddy’s ready,” Payton confidently stated, addressing reporters after the game.
Nix was injured while attempting a keeper that resulted in a 2-yard loss, where he was tackled by Bills safety Cole Bishop. Initially limping but showing no signs of a severe injury, Nix managed to complete a crucial deep pass to Marvin Mims Jr. that drew a 30-yard pass-interference flag, setting up a game-winning field goal by Wil Lutz.
Payton revealed that Nix will undergo surgery on Tuesday in Birmingham, Alabama. “He’s such a strong, faith-based guy,” Payton remarked, emphasizing Nix’s resilience and positive mindset even in light of the injury. Nix, the 12th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has already tied Russell Wilson’s NFL record with two dozen victories in his first two seasons.
This victory marks Nix’s first playoff win, a remarkable achievement after last year’s loss to the Bills. Payton acknowledged the challenges the team has faced this season, stating, “This team all year has lost key players and will rise up for the next challenge.”
As the Broncos prepare for the AFC Championship Game, all eyes will be on Stidham to lead the team in Nix’s absence. Fans are rallying behind the Broncos, eager to see how the team responds to this latest adversity.
Stay tuned for updates on Nix’s surgery and the Broncos’ preparations for next weekend’s critical match.
