A newly established walking group in Doncaster is enhancing mental health and fostering friendships among new mothers. Launched in August 2023 by Jasmine Gardner and Georgina Betts, the Lakeside Mum Walk began with just four participants and has significantly grown, with 18 mothers and their 20 babies joining the latest outing.

Every Friday morning, mothers gather to take their babies on walks around a local lake, utilizing pushchairs, prams, and baby carriers. Following the walks, many participants enjoy coffee together, creating an informal space for connection and support.

“This has such a positive impact on mental health for new mums,” Gardner said. “We support each other with friendship, advice, and lots of laughs.” The group has gained recognition, with local health visitors recommending it to new mothers in the area.

Gardner expressed delight at the growing interest, stating, “We are always happy for new mums or mummies-to-be to join us.” This initiative not only promotes physical activity but also serves as a vital support network for mothers navigating the challenges of early parenthood.

For those interested in joining the group, more information can be found on their Facebook page. The Lakeside Mum Walk exemplifies how community initiatives can play a crucial role in enhancing mental well-being and building lasting friendships among new parents.
