Reckitt Integrates AI into Daily Operations for Transformative Impact
Reckitt has transitioned generative artificial intelligence (AI) from experimental phases into everyday operations, setting a precedent among global consumer goods companies. The firm, known for brands such as Lysol and Mucinex, has overhauled its data infrastructure before deploying AI agents and analytical tools to enhance its marketing, sustainability, and enterprise decision-making processes.
Building an AI-Ready Infrastructure
At the foundation of Reckitt’s AI strategy is a centralized data platform based on Microsoft Azure. This platform integrates previously fragmented consumer, sales, media, and operational data across various brands and regions. Reckitt’s leadership recognized that launching generative AI initiatives without a consistent data foundation could lead to amplified errors rather than improved decision-making.
To facilitate this shift, Reckitt incorporated Power BI and Copilot capabilities into its analytics stack. This integration allows marketing and insights teams to query enterprise data using natural language, moving beyond reliance on static dashboards. According to a customer case study by Microsoft, Reckitt achieved a 60% improvement in marketing efficiency following the adoption of these tools, reducing time spent on routine analytical tasks by as much as 90%. Internal assessments indicated that AI-generated insights matched or outperformed traditional research outputs when compared against historical benchmarks.
Elaine Rodrigo, Reckitt’s Chief Insights and Analytics Officer, stated that the aim was to enable teams to transition from data to decisions more swiftly while ensuring accountability for final judgments remains with human teams. Reckitt consciously avoided using AI for autonomous decision-making, opting instead to utilize it for identifying correlations, anomalies, and performance signals.
Scaling AI Across Global Marketing Operations
With a robust data foundation established, Reckitt expanded its AI initiatives to include agentic AI. By 2025, the company had implemented AI agents for more than 500 marketers globally, embedding these tools into daily operations rather than confining them to innovation teams. Industry sources, including Digiday, reported that Reckitt experienced time savings of 20% to 40% in brand tracking and performance analysis through these advancements.
What distinguishes Reckitt’s approach is its focus on targeted use cases. Teams conducted time-and-motion studies to pinpoint areas where marketers were spending excessive time on low-value tasks. AI was then deployed specifically to streamline these processes. Executives emphasized that traditional pilot projects often lead to organizational fatigue without yielding substantial benefits. By designing systems with governance, training, and deployment in mind from the outset, Reckitt has worked to avoid such pitfalls.
Internally, the company has redefined AI as a capacity enhancer rather than a means to reduce workforce size. By automating analysis and reporting, Reckitt has encouraged marketers to dedicate more time to interpretation, creative strategy, and understanding consumer behavior.
In addition to marketing, Reckitt’s most complex AI deployment focuses on measuring Scope 3 emissions, which constitute the majority of its carbon footprint. Traditional measurement methods often relied on average figures that limited actionable insights. Collaborating with CO2 AI and Quantis, Reckitt has utilized AI-driven automation to calculate product-level emissions for approximately 25,000 individual products. This system pairs activity data with emissions factors at scale, enhancing accuracy by an estimated 75 times compared to previous methodologies. Tasks that once took months of manual modeling can now be completed in minutes. This granular data enables Reckitt to identify specific ingredients, suppliers, and packaging choices that impact emissions, aligning with its 2030 and 2040 net-zero targets.
Reckitt’s strategic deployment of AI now encompasses over 500 marketers, integrates data from approximately 35 sources, and analyzes 25,000 products at the SKU level. Through this comprehensive approach, Reckitt is not only enhancing its operational efficiency but also positioning itself for sustainable growth in an increasingly competitive market.
