Knicks Crush Nets 120-66, Set Franchise Record with 54-Point Win
UPDATE: The New York Knicks just achieved a historic victory, defeating the Brooklyn Nets 120-66 on January 25, 2023, marking the largest margin of victory in franchise history. This astonishing win breaks their four-game losing streak and sends a powerful message across the league.
The Knicks dominated from the start, leading by as much as 59 points and showcasing a remarkable performance. By the end of the third quarter, the starters had already completed their night with a commanding score of 88-56. The reserves continued to pile on the points, starting the fourth quarter with a 16-0 run, leaving the Nets reeling.
Jalen Brunson led the charge with 20 points, while Landry Shamet scored 18 points in just 15 minutes, hitting all six of his three-point attempts. The Knicks shot an impressive 57.5% from the field and completely overwhelmed the Nets, who struggled with only 29% shooting.
“A win was the most important thing,” said Karl-Anthony Towns, reflecting on the necessity to break their recent slump. The Knicks had lost nine of their last eleven games, suffering a 30-point deficit just two days prior against the Dallas Mavericks, an event that prompted a players-only meeting led by Brunson to address their issues.
The victory not only sets a franchise record but also highlights the Knicks’ superiority over the Nets, having won their last thirteen meetings. Nets coach Jordi Fernandez acknowledged the defeat, stating,
“Tonight was even worse and I’m the one responsible for it.”
The Knicks dominated in various aspects of the game, outscoring the Nets 12-0 in second-chance points and 29-4 on fast breaks, proving their readiness to compete for a championship. However, they are aware that tougher challenges lie ahead, with a crucial matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers coming up on Saturday.
“This was a good step for us,” Brunson noted, emphasizing the importance of maintaining their intensity and execution moving forward. The Knicks are determined to build on this momentum and continue improving in their quest for success.
Stay tuned for more updates as the Knicks look to solidify their position in the league after this historic win.
