The Brunswick Area Senior Community Center recently launched a year-long celebration marking its 50th anniversary with a gathering of around 80 People Plus members who participated in a celebratory selfie. This significant milestone highlights the center’s enduring role in the community since it was chartered by the Town of Brunswick in 1976.

A Hub for Older Adults

Located at the intersection of Union and Cumberland streets in downtown Brunswick, the center serves over 1,500 older adult members. These individuals engage in nearly 200 programs, classes, and events offered throughout the year. In addition to its diverse programming, People Plus also provides a complimentary transportation service for homebound adults and operates the Brunswick Area Teen Center for youths in grades 6 to 12.

Stacy Frizzle-Edgerton, the executive director of People Plus, expressed her enthusiasm for the anniversary celebrations. “We are excited to kick off our 50th anniversary with a series of fun events, fundraisers, and monthly activities at the center,” she said. The organization plans to collaborate with The Times Record throughout the year to share historical anecdotes and engage the broader community in these celebrations.

Monthly Gatherings and Community Meals

Among the popular activities is the monthly “Lunch and Connections,” where members enjoy homemade meals while reconnecting with friends and making new acquaintances. This luncheon, along with monthly breakfasts for men and women, forms part of over 200 Community Shared Meals served at the center, funded by Spectrum Generations.

Frizzle-Edgerton, known for her enthusiasm in capturing memories, often encourages members to participate in group selfies during events. While this may not be the favorite activity for everyone, members are generally accommodating, understanding the importance of these moments.
