Kodiak Solutions has completed the acquisition of BESLER & Company, a leader in hospital reimbursement, aiming to enhance its capabilities in revenue recovery. This strategic move integrates BESLER’s specialized Transfer Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) software into Kodiak’s analytics platform, addressing a critical area of financial loss in healthcare due to Medicare underpayments.

Strengthening Revenue Cycle Management

The acquisition allows Kodiak to consolidate various niche revenue cycle tools under one comprehensive platform. This approach is designed to streamline operations for hospital Chief Financial Officers (CFOs), reducing reliance on multiple vendors for distinct functions such as net revenue reporting and reimbursement recovery. “Adding BESLER’s people to our teams and its products to the Kodiak platform serve our mission of simplifying complex business problems,” stated Derek Bang, CEO of Kodiak Solutions.

BESLER’s Transfer DRG software is particularly valuable in identifying improper coding of patient transfers, which can lead to significant financial losses for hospitals. The integration of this software into Kodiak’s platform creates a “closed loop” system that not only assesses overall financial health but also actively seeks out recoverable funds that may otherwise go unnoticed.

A Shift Towards Comprehensive Solutions

This acquisition signifies a notable trend in the health technology sector, as hospitals increasingly favor integrated solutions over fragmented point systems. Currently, Kodiak serves approximately 2,300 facilities, and the merger aims to simplify the user experience by allowing CFOs to manage all aspects of revenue recovery within a single platform. “Bringing Kodiak and BESLER together enables health system CFOs to accomplish more with their data and gain actionable insights,” Bang emphasized.

Previously, financial data often required external auditing to identify underpayments, complicating workflows and delaying potential recoveries. With BESLER’s technology incorporated, these capabilities will become a core part of the platform, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness.

As part of the acquisition, Jonathan Besler, former CEO of BESLER, will join Kodiak as a Vice President, ensuring that the integration of technology is complemented by human expertise. Meanwhile, founder Philip Besler will retire, marking the end of an era for the family-run firm as it transitions into a modern software-as-a-service (SaaS) powerhouse. The financial details of the acquisition have not been publicly disclosed, but the strategic implications for Kodiak are clear.

The healthcare industry is evolving rapidly, and Kodiak Solutions appears well-positioned to lead the charge in addressing revenue leakage, ultimately benefiting hospitals and healthcare providers in their quest for financial sustainability.
